Stress Awareness Month is recognised every year during April. Although a stress-free life does not exist, it was taken to a new and overwhelming level during the pandemic with many not able to cope with the challenges both in the workplace and at home.

90 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG. This year the Safety First Association celebrates its 90th anniversary. During 1932, seeing the accident and fatality statistics increasing in the mines, Sir Ernest Oppenheimer collected together a group of industrialists worried about the decline of safety and health in industry, and together with the mayor of Johannesburg they registered the Safety First Association.

Whilst I understand lockdown fatigue, I fail to understand how some people do not have a modicum of logic or concern when it comes to keeping safe and well during a pandemic. There has been a lot of debate over the low spread of the disease and death rates in Africa.
Living through a pandemic is a very sobering experience with our priorities changing overnight and survival instincts kicking in. Some have managed to weather the storm very well, while others have suffered badly. One thing is for sure, we are all in it together and we are still in for a long ride, even if a vaccine does materialise within the next few months.

We have to wonder why it has taken something so devastating as Covid-19 for the PPE industry to get the recognition it deserves.
